Tube Patch Kits

REMA PATCH KITS

Many years ago, Rema of West Germany, in essence redesigned the inner tube patch kit by improving the patch itself. Up to that time the patch itself was nearly 1/10th of an inch thick and cumbersome to use on a thin casing racing tire because it would produce a "thump" while rolling because of the added thickness. The old style patches also weren't as supple and frequently wouldn't contour and adhere to the tube. Rema's redesigned patches have a total thickness of just 6/10ths of a millimeter at the center ,which is its highest spot, with the thickness feathering into non-existence at the edges. This tapered edge patch is also sealed at time of vulcanizing, on top with cellophane and on the bottom with aluminum foil, to be air tight, to retain the suppleness of the soft rubber patch and nearly guarantees a 100% success rate when patching a tube. Rema makes their patches in two sizes which are used in their three different patch kits. Their F1 patch is a 20mm (.80") diameter circular patch and their F2 patch is 16mm (.62") wide and 43mm (1.7 inches) long. Each patch kit comes with a piece of emery cloth to "buff" or finely scratch the tubes' surface so that the rubber cement and patch have a clean surface to adhere to. All the kits come with a tube of rubber cement and pictorial instructions on how to properly patch an inner tube. There are Taiwan factories that make imitations of the Rema patch, but these don't exhibit the same quality of the original Rema patch they are copying, or work quite as well.

REMA 01 PATCH KIT

The Rema 01 kit is the smallest of the three kits Rema makes. It includes instructions, emery cloth, a 2.8 gram tube of rubber cement, four of the F1 patches and one of the F2 patches. These are all in a small plastic box with a total weight of just 16 grams. $ Price in Catalog

REMA 02 PATCH KIT

The Rema 02 kit includes instructions, emery cloth, a 10 gram tube of rubber cement, six of the F1 patches and one of the F2 patches. These are all in a small plastic box with a total weight of just 27 grams. $ Price in Catalog

REMA 05 ATB PATCH KIT

The Rema 05 ATB kit includes instructions, emery cloth, a 10 gram tube of rubber cement, just two of the F1 patches and one of the F2 patches. Rema also has a larger 30mm diameter circular patch which is 1.3mm thick to be used on extra wide mountain bike tubes or automobile inner tubes used for rafting purposes. Also included are two Black molded nylon tire levers that snap together. These are all in a larger plastic box with a total weight of 53 grams. $ Price in Catalog

Speed Patch and The Park GP-1 Patch Kits

Sometime in 1994 someone realized that the polyurethane foam ribbon used for carpet tape could be used to patch tubes with. The relatively thin "Carpet Tape" is sold at most home improvement stores and has an adhesive on both sides making it "Double Faced".

You can buy the orignal "Double Faced Carpet Tape" in sheets of 1" x 1" squares relatively cheap to use successfully as patches. Just leave the paper on the "side" of the patch facing the tire.

Or, you can buy re-packaged at a somewhat greater price the Speed Patch or Park version of the same thing.

We sell both the Park & Speed Patch type of patches for the same price $2.19 The packaging and handling contributes heavily to their cost.
