Shimano SPD Cleats

SHIMANO 50 SERIES SPD CLEAT SETS

Shimano makes both types of cleats available in replacement sets. The Black SM-SH50 for one way lateral release and the SM-SH55 Silver set for multiple release mode work on their pedals, (described in detail in the SPD overview).

WINWOOD SPD REPLACEMENT CLEAT SET

These replacement cleats are functionally identical and appear to be physically identical to the Shimano single release SM-SH50 cleat set. However these are made of stainless steel and are made in the United States. The Japanese made Shimano cleats are much more expensive because of the high exchange rate of the Yen (´) to the US dollar ($) also known as Endaka. Their US manufacture allows them to be sold for just a little less than the Japanese equivalent (Winwood has instructed in what price to sell these for). They come as a pair of Silver cleats with the two 5 x .8mm silver installation bolts. The weight of the cleats is 36 grams and the bolts weigh 8 1/2 grams. $ Price in Catalog

SHIMANO SM-PD20 M737/M525 PEDAL PLATFORM/REFLECTOR

It's possible, under some circumstances, when using M737 or M525 pedals on your bike that you will not want to use shoes with cleats. Possibly you will be commuting to work in street shoes, but need to race with cleats on the weekend. For this purpose Shimano makes these platform inserts. They have a cleat shape that snaps into the cleat retention system. Made of durable Black plastic, the upper surface of these inserts is largely flat with raised teeth to grip and hold the shoe bottom. Draped off the front and the back is an Amber reflector to aid in being seen. Gripping and twisting the platform/reflector releases it from the pedal. The pair weighs 86 1/2 grams.

SHIMANO 70 SERIES SPD CLEAT SETS

Shimano makes both of the 70 series cleat types available in replacement sets. Both are Black; the SM-SH70 is fixed-position, and the SM-SH71 which permits 6 degree rotational movement.
