T-Gear Cranks

T-GEAR MOUNTAIN CRANK ARM SET

T-Gear crank arms are each Computer Numeric Control machined from 7075-T6 billet aluminum. The right arm is made of two pieces, a spider machined of plate end the arm machined of billet, that are held together by four steel bolts. The construction and style is very similar to the GT Aluminum cranks and the Adventure Components Mountain cranks. At the pedal spindle end, the arm is 33mm wide, just over the pedal area the arm width reduces to 25.4mm (1"). At the B/B spindle on the left arm it again widens to 35,45mm (1.40"), while on the right arm it widens to 47.36mm (1.865") to enclose the bolts that hold the spider to the right arm. Each arm, at the pedal spindle, is 12.28mm thick. It remains at 12.28mm thickness until the top 3 1/2" (88.90mm) of each arm where it gradually thickens to 15.046mm, and then 24.16 at the spindle B/B itself.

The back of both arms have a 15mm wide half round trough cut the length of the arm to within 3mm of the pedal and B/B spindle hole. This cut reduces the center thickness to 8.8mm in the 12.28mm thickness of the arm and 11.5mm in the15mm thickness at the B/B spindle. These rear cuts are to reduce the arms weight. The pedal spindle hole is drilled and tapped with 9/16" by 20 TPI threads.

The crank arm dust cap hole is bored and tapped with 22mm by 1mm threads. The square two degree tapered B/B spindle hole is milled as a part of cutting the bottom. The spider is machined from plate aluminum. It is 5.68mm thick, but machined to 3.41mm thickness at the arm ends for the mid/outer chainrings and fixing bolts. The spider is drilled for the standard mountain bolt pattern, using the 110mm bolt center diameter for the middle and outer chainrings and 74mm for the inner.

The spider is held to the arm using four 5mm by .8mm bolts with an 1/8" hex fitting. This 12mm long bolt is the same type used to hold the spider onto the GT and AC crank arm. Also, like the GT and AC cranks, five aluminum inner fixing bolt spacers are included with the arms.

We found the T-Gear cranks had a Bike-Pro Q measurement of 158mm. The cranks come anodized in Blue, Black, Pewter Grey, Lavender, Red, or Silver. They are made only in 175mm, or 180mm lengths. T-Gear Mountain cranks come as right arm, with spider, left arm and a set of five aluminum inner spacers. Chainrings, the double chainring fixing bolt set, the inner fixing bolt set, and crank arm dust caps will be needed separately. We found the 175mm arm set, with spacers, (4.5 grams) weighs 454 grams. Made in the USA, be sure to specify length and color
