Litespeed Ti Seatpost

LITESPEED TITANIUM SEATPOST

The Litespeed Titanium is a revolving clamp post using two tie-down bolts to hold the clamp pieces in place from the top. This clamp piece styling, used for the Litespeed post is becoming common, with other makers preceding them with the similar design. The mast tubing is made from Titanium 3Al-2.5V tubing with a .9mm wall thickness. The tubing section has two outer dimensions. Of it's nearly 12 inch length, the lower 10 inches has an outer diameter of 26.8mm, 27.0mm, or 27.2mm in fit the seat tube. The upper two inches is "swaged", which is a process where the outer dimension is reduced evenly from all sides. The swaging process reduces the upper section of the tube to 23.6mm. The mast piece is carefully miter cut at the top to contour the shape of the cradle plate. The cradle plate is made from 1/8" Titanium plate to cover the mast tube and leave two protruding ends that are rounded with a hole drilled with a 1/4" hole. The plate and mast are TIG welded together. A machined aluminum half-round forms the lower clamp piece that supports nearly an inch of the saddle rail. The upper clamp piece is 2" across. The upper surface has two 9mm wide half-round troughs cut perpendicular to the bike's line of travel. A 7mm wide groove is cut through them to allow a bolt to slide through. A 9.5mm diameter stainless steel rod that are 7/8" long lies in the trough. The rod has a hole drilled through the center and is tapped with threads for a bolt that passes up through the hole in the cradle plate, to the side the lower clamp piece, through the 9.5mm groove cut through the trough and anchors into the steel rod. The two tie-down bolts are machined of Titanium 6Al-4V rod, with 6mm by 1mm threads, are 27mm long, have a 5mm hex fitting, and weigh 5 grams. With the clamp perpendicular to the tubing section, the center of rail to end of tube length is 312mm. The weight of a 27.2mm Litespeed Titanium post is just 203 grams, (of which the two aluminum clamp pieces alone weigh 64.5 grams). The Litespeed Titanium post is made only in the 26.8mm, 27.0mm or 27.2mm diameter sizes. Made in USA.
