Bruce Dorey is an engineer that works for McQuay International.
They are the second largest maker of air conditioning systems and what Bruce works on is how minimize the consumption of new materials in their products and how to make certain the finished they make are easily dismantled for reuse once they have out their product cycle. He sent me an email from his home in Plymouth, Minnesota about his 6th Gen 80GB video iPod that read,

"Hi well, I dropped my beloved iPod into the bath tub does not work at all. Is this a good case for you? Please explain how to best get it to you for repair. Thanks"

I sent him back the instructions to send it and it arrived a few days. By the next afternoon I had gone though it and was able to send him back this reply,

"Bruce,

It arrived this morning and I've been able to get through it by this afternoon.

I have it all working and you files are safe. The battery didn't make it and the LCD didn't make it either. There was corrosion on two of the 5 leads beyond being able to use it again. And the LCD had 3 critical leads corroded away which were the ones that made the backlight glow. So there was a dark screen with data painting to it but would have required looking at it in strong sunlight to see anything.

The battery is $19 and the LCD is $33

I'll send a PayPal request for $52, cover it by noon tomorrow and the iPod will be the way back at 3pm tomorrow.

I see that you are not a PayPal user, read the message and follow the instructions. It will take less than 20 seconds to build the account andpay it.

Frank"

I actually sent that message after 10pm and the next day he built the PayPal account and I was able to get it back out to him.

Works perfectly, all of his files are still there and safe, the total was $92

Fixed - Total cost $92.
