Scott USA Suspension Fork Recall

dated 5-15-96 / posted here 6-3-96

Recall Information

In conjuction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Scott USA is conducting a voluntary recall of several models of "Unishock" suspension forks sold since 1992. Consumers with a Unishock S, LF, VR, TX or LFR suspension fork should immediately stop using the fork and return it to Scott for a free replacement fork. The affected forks may crack or separate, which could cause a rider to lose control of a bicycle and fall.

Identification of a Recalled Shock
Only the models listed above are subjected to this recall. The recalled shocks all have the "SCOTT" logo on the side of each leg, and have a sticker on the front of each leg containing the mark "UNISHOCK" and the designation "S", "LF", "VR", "TX", or "R".

These suspension forks were sold as after-market equipment for bicycles, and as original equipment on the following Scott USA bicyles models:

1993 models: Ultimate CST, Team Racing, Comp Racing, Unitrack ST

1994 models: Ultimate CST, Team Racing, Comp Racing, Unitrack St, Unitrack CC, Unitrack FSR

Important note; Only the fork models listed above are affected. Forks bearing the name "UNISHOCKS", but not bearing one of the designations listed above, are not subject to the recall. These non-affected forks are also identifiable by the color of the fork legs, which are white.

Return Procedure
Scott USA has sent a recall notice to all known bicycle dealers who have sold these models Unishock forks. (This isn't true, we didn't get one and shouldn't it have been sent certified so they couldn't claim it was lost in the mail?......) Consumers with a recalled model fork should immediately stop using it and return it to an authorized Scott dealer for a free replacement shock, or call (800) 745-5467 for assistance. Labor credits will be given to dealers who must remove and install forks. Canadian customers please contact Veltec Canada at (416) 251-5006
