Girvin Tech Bulletin
VECTOR 2 FORK STEERER TUBE
In the event of a crash, there could be damage to your
Vector 2 Fork that may not be visible. Damaged forks can
be extremely dangerous, and can result in failure during
use and severe injuries. After a crash, take your fork to
an authorized Girvin / Pro-Flex dealer or other qualified
technician to verify its structural integrity.
It is possible for the adhesive joint on some Vector 2
forks to fail due to a frontal impact. This failure can manifest
itself as a seemingly loose headset.
If the headset on a Vector 2 exhibits chronic looseness, stop
riding the fork immediately. If the steerer tube glue joint is
separated, further frontal impacts could cause a massive failure
and potential for injury.
Any Vector 2 fork that develops looseness in the headset should be
disassembled and inspected. Any sign of separation between the steerer
tube and the steerer tube end forging, or movement of the small roll
pin, is evidence of a failed adhesive joint. In this case, the tube
must be replaced.
Steerer tubes on forks before serial #018789 with a single wall roll pin are eligible for tube replacement.
A select number of tubes before the above serial # have been correctly
bonded and pinned through both walls and across the diameter of the tube.
To check for this full roll pin, tip the fork upside down and use a
flashlight to look up the tube. If a metal pin bisects the tube, the unit
is fine. If the view down the tube is unobstructed, the tube has the
potential to fail.
Girvin strongly recommends that your Vector fork be serviced by a
Girvin / Pro-Flex dealer or other qualified technician. This bulletin
is for a qualified technician who possesses proper training and tools.
