This machined aluminum piece replaces the mounting bolt, (the bolt that threads into the frame at the rear drop-out). The stock Suntour mounting bolt is made of cast and machined steel that is then chrome plated, weighing 21 grams. The aluminum is intended to shear or braek-away in a strong impact so there will be less damage to the frame. This aluminum one is machined from aluminum rod, (including being drilled through to reduce weight), and then anodized, for easy recognition by others. It is an exact replacement for any of Suntour's rear derailleurs, (XC Pro - both, XC Comp - both, both MD rears, the XC LTD and the X-1, also Superbe Pro, SL, and all Suntour road rear derailleurs). This aluminum replacement weighs only 6 grams. Removal of the stock Suntour one is easy, a small cir-clip is pried away from the mounting bolt on the back of the derailleur. This permits the entire mounting assembly to reveal itself. The aluminum piece slides into the same position the original occupied, you reposition the spring turning it counter-clockwise past the plate stop, compress the assembly and push the cir-clip back into place again. It is quite easy and I've just done it to the XC Pro MD using just a medium flat-blade screwdriver and my hands. It took less than 40 seconds with no difficulty. This Titanium mounting bolt replaces the chromed steel one found in the Superbe Pro, SL, Radius, and Edge road derailleurs. It also replaces the pivot bolt in all XC Pro models, XC Comp models and the XC LTD rear derailleurs. It is machined like the other SRP bolts which follow. This is an exact replacement for the mounting bolt for all Shimano rear derailleurs that do not come with a mounting plate. This bolt is made in 2 models one is for all mode is made before 1994 and includes but is not limited to; RX100, 105SC, Ultegra, Dura-Ace, pre '94 Deore LX - both cages, Deore DX - both cages, pre '94 Deore XT - both cages, and XTR. The other is for the 1994 M737 XT, the M563 LX models and the STX models made as Hyper-C units for the 1994 model year. Specialty Racing Products produces a Titanium replacement mounting bolt for the same Shimano rear derailleurs listed above. It is beautifully machined from a single piece of Titanium rod and includes the notch for the O-ring seal. To reduce it's weight the bolt is drilled deeply from the outside and then broached to create the 5mm hex head fitting that appears on the original bolt. The Titanium Silver color is less shiny than the Chrome finished Shimano but the fact that it's an upgrade may less obvious to the trained eye. The SRP mounting bolt weighs 9 grams with the 1994 XT, LX and STX version weighing just 7.5 grams. Installation is exactly the same as the aluminum model. Specialty Racing Products produces a Titanium replacement pivot bolt for the Shimano XTR, Dura-Ace and Ultegra rear derailleurs. The pivot bolt is the bolt that joins the right pivot link on the derailleur to the pulley cage. The pivot bolt used on other Shimano models is not removable, so that failure or destruction of their pulley cage requires complete replacement of the derailleur. The SRP bolt is beautifully machined from a single piece of Titanium rod and includes the notch for the O-ring seal that appears on the original, to seal dirt out of the assembly. The O-ring can be removed and re-installed onto the SRP replacement. The SRP bolt is deeply drilled from the outside and then punched to create the 5mm allen head fitting. To change the pivot bolt, you remove a small steel set screw with a number 2 Phillips screwdriver and rotate the pulley cage away. The upper, (or guide), pulley is removed using a 2mm allen wrench, then a 5mm allen wrench turned counter-clockwise unfastens the pivot bolt. After moving the O-ring, re-trace the steps in reverse, we found it took slightly more than 2 minutes using just the screwdriver and the two allen wrenches. SRP makes three types of titanium replacement bolts for the Record rear derailleur. They are all machined Titanium 6Al-4V rod. The first is a mounting bolt replacement that changes out the 20.5 gram for a 10.5 gram Ti one. Installation follows the same description used for the other mounting bolts described above and requires a small flat bladed screwdriver, bare hands and about 40 seconds. It will replace the mounting bolt used in the Record, Record OR and Chorus. The second bolt replaces the 13 gram steel pivot bolt with a Ti replacement that weighs 7.5 grams and will work in the Reocrd or Record OR only. The pivot bolt is sold only as part of a two piece kit that includes the Ti mounting bolt. Installation of the pivot bolt follows steps used for pivot bolts described above and requires a 5mm hex wrench, bare hands and less than 1 minute. SRP also makes Ti replacements for the steel pulley bolts (axles) which weigh 7 grams in the original steel and 4 grams in Titanium. SRP has created a pair of after-market replacement pulley bolts. These replace the two bolts that pass through the pulley cage, the pulley and thread into the rear cage plate. These bolts are compatible with the ones used in Shimano Dura-Ace, Ultegra, 105SC-8 and XTR rear derailleurs only!! They are machined from Titanium 6Al-4V rod, broached with a 3mm hex head, then have the threads rolled onto them.
