Overview of Time TMT PedalsTIME MOUNTAIN TECHNOLOGY TMT PEDALSTime mountain pedals using the TMT (Time Mountain Technology) will not be covered in this pedal article. The TMT clipless concept is a variation on the TWT style using two raised wire cleat retainers. This pedal set will not succeed in the marketplace though it provides the sole of the necessary Time shoe to recess the cleat and the lateral rotation most riders will seek. The Extreme and Sierra pedals themselves look like something from the "Jetsons" and the colors chosen for the nearly all-plastic pedal, (olive green-persimmon orange-black / persimmon orange- light grey-black / light grey-dark grey-Kelly green) detract further from an already in-elegant design. Time needed something startlingly engineered, to arrive so late to the clipless mountain market - or at least something that by style and color looks as desirable on, and able to integrate visually with, the other components on the bike. The Sierra model pedals with the necessary cleats weigh 576 grams per pair. If these are really John Tomac's personal choice, without being paid for the Sponsorship/endorsement, your author would be fatally surprised. If he had a personal interest in the success of these pedals, rather than just a financial interest, where was he in the design stage, as we are lead to believe he has been in both helmet and grip designs. Though Time's Road pedal success is undeniable and the majority of Road riders in our organization use their Road pedals, Time has missed the mark with TMT, making the TMT pedals and shoes largely irrelevant. |
