Kingsbery Seatposts

KINGSBERY MOUNTAIN SEATPOST

The Kingsbery post is elegantly simple in design, while being functionally light. The clamp pieces begin as aluminum extrusions which are machined. The upper clamp piece, as extruded, has two teardrop shaped cut outs to reduce weight, without compromising it's "truss" design. The piece is cut to a 1/2" length, drilled and threaded for the fastening bolt. The lower clamp piece is an extrusion, cut to length, that has the surface smoothly milled so the upper piece seats perfectly to it. An indentation is made on the bottom for the angle adjusting screw and the middle is milled for the fastening bolt to pass through. The lower clamp piece provides 1 3/4" support for the saddle rails, with the upper clamp giving a 1/2" of surface on each side to hold the saddle securely. The head piece for this post is machined from solid billet aluminum, with the area over the tube totally drilled out to reduce weight. At the rear of the head piece is a small 3mm allen head set screw that adjusts the angle the saddle. By turning this set screw clockwise, it raises the rear of the plate/clamp assembly, tilting your saddle downward. Turned the other way, lowers the angle.

This bolt operates to adjust saddle distance, which is slightly forward of the angle adjusting bolt, independently of the 6mm clamp bolt that cinches down the entire saddle and clamp assembly. The clamp bolt is a steel 6mm by 1mm thread pitch that is 30mm long, with a 5mm allen head. It seats against a brass bushing, that is pressed in from the bottom, which provides a self-lubricating, non-abrasive surface for the steel bolt to rotate against. A Blue plastic plug is inserted in the top, under the clamp, so debris is prevented from getting into the seat tube.

How the head piece is fastened isn't clear, but it seems to be a tapered fit that is pressed on. The post and parts are then given a brushed finish which is Silver (clear) anodized, or electrostatic painted in glossy Black. With the clamp perpendicular to the tubing section, the center of rail to end of tube length is 353mm. The weight of a 27.2mm Kingsbery Mountain post is 282 grams. The Kingsbery post is made in USA, and is available, in Black or Silver, in 26.4mm, 26.6mm, 26.8mm, 27.0mm, 27.2mm sizes. Alan Kingsbery's company is out of business.

We believe that its' failure is the result of no fresh designs, not having its own machine tools to make the parts and most importantly having the goods sold through distributors who would keep on hand supplies rather having stores make a special call to buy them from Kingsbery directly.

KINGSBERY TITANIUM ATB SEATPOST

This is the same seat post in design and manufacture as above, except the aluminum tubing section has been replaced with a 355mm length of Titanium 3Al-2.5V tubing to reduce weight and increase strength. The Kingsbery Titanium post is available only with the clamp painted Black on a Silver head piece mounted on the Titanium tube. With the clamp perpendicular to the tubing section, the center of rail to end of tube length is 383mm. The Kingsbery Titanium post, at this time, is made only in the 26.8mm or 27.2mm diameter. The 27.2mm size weighs 231 grams. Alan Kingsbery's company is out of business. We believe that its failure is the result of no fresh designs, not having its own machine tools to make the parts and most importantly having the goods sold through distributors who would keep on hand supplies rather having stores make a special call to buy them from Kingsbery directly.
